My favorite, Irrfan Khan (1967–2020)

I’m not a Bollywood fan!

I’m not a movie person!

But still, the loss is so personal. My heart just sank listening to the sad news of the demise of Irrfan Khan sir.

I was introduced to the magnificent acting and dialogue delivery skills of Irrfan Khan, by my dear friend Piyush Panwar, when he shared with me his movie “Yeh Saali Zindagi” during college days. The movie is still one of my favorites.

His acting and dialogues left a deep impression on me.

And suddenly I became his fan! Googling around where he studied, his career, and finding “Irrfan khan movies”, watching snippets from his old TV shows and eagerly waiting for his next movie!

How could someone make you remember a 20-sec scene forever out of a 2 hr movie?… Talking of his small yet impactful role in the movie “The Amazing Spiderman”.

I wonder what made him so special, so magical?

I got my answer not once but every time I watched him on screen. Be it, The Lunchbox, Life of Pi, Paan Singh Tomar, Hindi Medium ….the list is endless.

The secret ingredient is always — Love.

He loved his work to the core. His acting always had a depth of dedication and the breadth of his experience — visible on his face and eyes in every damn scene.

I’m not an expert on acting, nor filmmaking. But I can vouch for the fact that is the best actor because he connected to me and millions of others directly through the heart.

Surprisingly, my 14-year-old niece is his fan too!

My words are too small to justify and appreciate his talents. It’s just an outburst of emotions at this moment while I clear up my throat & eyes and accept the reality.

You will always be there in our hearts to inspire us with your love, hard work, and passion.

Concluding with his dialogues……

I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.

— His climax dialogue from the movie “Life of Pi”

Won’t be leaving you without a goodbye.

Goodbye, Irrfan sir.

Rest in Peace.
