Internet of Things (IoT) explained

Do you have a Smart Bulb in your house?

Or A fitness band in your hand?

Or A smartphone?

All these are real-life examples of the Internet of Things (IoT) in action and list is endless. From your Ipencil to your car, everything is becoming “connected” with the power of IoT.

To understand what exactly is this IoT, let’s break down this phrase into simple words, and recall their meaning:

Internet: A system of connected computers

Things: Any object around us. Just look around. TV, Almirah, Tubelight, Table, Chair, etc.

Internet of Things simply means connecting all these “things” to the “Internet”. And once we do that, we can remotely control them, get their usage data, check status, and so many other things.

Internet of Things is transforming the everyday physical objects that surround us into an ecosystem of information that will enrich our lives. From refrigerators to parking spaces to houses, the Internet of Things is bringing more and more things into the digital fold every day, which will likely make the Internet of Things a multi-trillion dollar industry in the near future. And a great opportunity to leverage in education, industry, personal life, and professional life.

However, many people, try to avoid learning about IoT and never able to look beyond the current technology and innovation ecosystem.

We at, Banaao — A Makers’ Playground, envisage making IoT learning more inclusive for everyone and have worked with a lot of Design Colleges, Educators, Young Engineering Students, and School students to help them with hands-on IoT learning.

We recently collaborated with a vibrant IoT community — IoT NCR — to conduct a webinar on IoT for Non-techies. This webinar covered some motivations, strategies, and pointers to help businesses and leaders to drive towards a goal of “IoT for All”. Thanks vinay solanki for hosting us!
